Harrison Wins At The Island

Trent Harrison has broken through for his first win in the competitive Australian Formula Ford Championship at Phillip Island on the weekend. Trent ran at the front of the pack all weekend, and broke through for his first win in Saturday’s Race 2, winning by an impressive 3.5 seconds. This placed Trent in second for the round, and moved him back up the championship points table after a tough outing at Sandown last weekend.

The weekend started well for the Wonga Park resident, topping the practice times on Friday. Trent said this of Fridays two practice sessions: “We had great car speed and were fastest overall for practice. We have made a few minor changes for qualifying, but the car is good”.

After topping the overall practice times, Qualifying in third spot was disappointing for Harrison, but he wasn’t too concerned as he felt the pace was still there; “I didn't get a chance to make the most of the new tyre because of a red flag during that session. I managed to do a lap good enough for P3 on the restart, but I think we may have had pole if we didn’t get caught out with the red flag”.

Race 1 saw Harrison lead for a short period of time, however a 4th place result at the flag was not what the Rising star was aiming for, “I finished 4th which wasn’t our plan obviously. We had good pace and I was leading when the safety car came out, I'm very confident we can move forward in the next race for sure”.

Race 2 was when the years of hard work paid off for Harrison, breaking through for his maiden national series victory. He was overjoyed after the race “This was the best race of my career for sure and my first National Formula Ford win. I got to the lead an put my head down and just went. Winning the won the race by 3.5 seconds is amazing, especially around here where a tow is such an advantage. What a feeling!!!”

Race 3 saw Trent cross the line 4th again, this time setting the fastest lap of the race to boot. This put Trent second overall for the weekend at the Island – a great boost to his championship standing, “I'm rapt with being second overall for the weekend. The team has put so much effort in and it's finally starting to pay off. I couldn’t be happier. Bring on Surfers Paradise!”

Harrison heads to Round 7 which will be held on the streets of Surfers Paradise next month, in equal 5th spot in the Championship. The next round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship is at the Gold Coast 600 from October 21-23.
