Le Brocq Takes Maiden Australian Formula Ford Round Win

CAMS Rising Star Jack LeBrocq broke through for his maiden Australian Formula Ford Championship round win at a wet and wild Sandown Raceway on the weekend. LeBrocq didn’t take a race win from any of the three heats but his consistency proved vital.  After qualifying on the back row due to being caught out by the red flag midsession which didn’t allow Jack to get a lap in on the drying track, he was able to claw his way back through the field in Race 1 to take 3rd position.

“It’s absolutely fantastic to finally get a round win under my belt! It has been a long time coming with the Minda Motorsport squad but we have finally got here and it’s just a massive credit to everyone who has been involved! We haven’t completed a great deal of testing with the French built Mygale chassis this year but with every outing we just keep on getting stronger and that has shown in our results throughout the year. I was pretty disappointed with qualifying but that’s Motorsport and I just put my head down in Race 1 and I think that showed when I walked away with a podium finish”
Sunday brought about some very mixed conditions with torrential rain making very difficult conditions in Race 2. Race 3 added to that as the drivers were sitting on the grid there was a very light drizzle. By the time the drivers came back around onto the main straight the rain was well and truly falling and it made for a very interesting turn 1 on the second lap. After a couple of minutes of heavy rain the track started to dry making it a very exciting finish to the race. Le Brocq was good enough for 2nd in both of Sunday’s races and also set the fastest lap in that race.

“I was rapt when I crossed the line and the team came over the radio and told me the news! Who would have thought I would be on the top step after qualifying on the back row of the grid. The final race on Sunday was very interesting with the rain coming down on the 2nd lap of the race! I was able to keep my nose clean and stayed on the track and it just proves that consistency is very important in taking out a Round win.”

“I am now looking forward to this weekend for Round 6 of the Championship at Phillip Island, where I think we can definitely continue this run of top finishes as we had a very positive test day there a couple of weeks ago so we will be strong at this round.”

I would like to thank Minda Motorsport TP Bruin Beasley, Race Engineer Ric Kemp, my Mechanic Aidan Zanotto, Andrew McInnes, Michael Stillwell, Geoff Morgan, Lucas Docking, the AMSF, Greg Woodrow, my sponsors and family for their support prior to and over the weekend.
