Rising Stars gain wet weather experience in Tassie

Tasmania’s Symmons Plains International Raceway has provided the CAMS Rising Stars with a healthy dose of wet weather racing experience during Round 7 of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship.

With only 75 minutes break between races two and three on Sunday morning, team drivers Jack Le Brocq, Matthew Brabham and Garry Jacobson faced a busy end to a highly competitive weekend of Formula Ford racing.

Le Brocq showed impressive speed in the wet conditions, ending Race 3 in ninth position having gained two places over the final two laps.

The result was also a testament to the Minda Motorsport crew, who repaired significant suspension damage to Le Brocq’s car in record time after an incident in Race 2.

Having added to his points tally with a 10th place finish in Race 1, 18 year old Le Brocq was making his way towards the top five in Race 2 before contact with seventh placed man Nathan Morcom ended his race.

“It was another big learning curve for us this weekend, but we showed some really good car speed in the wet today,” said Le Brocq.

“We were making good progress there in Race 2, and to get taken out the way we did was disappointing to say the least.

"Morcom had been blocking for a couple of laps and I had a good run into Turn 4 and was under him, but he just chopped across and broke our suspension.

“The guys did a great job to get the car ready for Race 3, but unfortunately it didn’t feel as good as it had earlier in the day.

“We still managed to score some more points in the last race, and all in all I’m happy with the way I drove this weekend.”

With two 11th place finishes on Sunday, Brabham was unlucky not to score championship points on his first visit to the iconic circuit.

Jacobson also spent Sunday’s races just outside the top 10, after a Race 1 DNF proved an unwanted setback.

The Shepparton based driver had earlier qualified within 0.8s of pole on Saturday morning.

The Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship holds its eighth and final round at Sandown Raceway in Melbourne next weekend (November 19-21).

The CAMS Rising Stars are proudly supported by the Confederation of Australian Motorsport, the Australian Sports Commission, Minda Motorsport, Penrite Oils, OAMPS Insurance Brokers, Boylan Traffic Solutions, Relux Slabs, Revolution Racegear, LCF Merchandise and Mark Webber.
