Rising Stars promising on Surfers debut

After a troubled start to the weekend, the CAMS Rising Star squad showed promising form on the streets of Surfers Paradise, with Jack Le Brocq finishing sixth overall for the weekend.

The 18 year old maturely built up his speed during his first weekend of racing on the Gold Coast, moving from 16th in qualifying to tenth in Race 1, before logging fine fifth and sixth place finishes in the final two races.

“I was disappointed after qualifying,” said Le Brocq.

“It took me a while to build up my confidence here amongst the concrete walls.

“It’s a really enjoyable challenge learning new street circuits, but you’ve got to make sure you build up to it.

“During the races I was able to make some moves at the Turn 4 and into Turn 11, which were really satisfying.”

Le Brocq ended the weekend sixth overall, while team-mates Garry Jacobson, Matthew Brabham and Liam Sager were 11th, 12th and 13th.

The trio were also having their first outings at the Surfers Paradise circuit – which did not come without some drama.

Brabham crashed at the exit of the first chicane during qualifying, but recovered well to score points in Race 2 (10th) and Race 3 (8th).

Jacobson meanwhile posted strong results in Race 1 (9th) and Race 2 (8th), but was the victim of two incidents in Race 3.

Conversely, the high point of Sager’s weekend was Race 3, where he scored one point for 10th position.

Minda Motorsport team principal Bruin Beasely said he was pleased with the way the weekend panned out.

“Overall we’re pretty happy with the way the boys drove this weekend.

“We had a few dramas on Friday, but Jack’s speed and consistency was once again the highlight for us.

“Garry drove very well too, and we believe the crash that put him out of Race 3 was caused by the damage from an earlier incident – which wasn’t his fault.

“We’re really looking forward to the last two rounds of the championship at Symmons Plains and Sandown.”
