CAMS Rising Stars ‘chasing the track’ at QR

“It was difficult today to get a true read today on the car - we were really chasing the track all day,” said Brabham, whose 1:14.7 lap from the morning would have been fast enough to top Practice 3.

“The track heated up a lot between the sessions which made everyone a bit slower, despite the effect of the rubber being laid down from the V8 Supercars.

“Even so, I feel more relaxed than at the Grand Prix, and I think that is starting to show with a more consistent performance in the car. The win at the last State Championship round at Phillip Island has been great for both the confidence of the team and for me personally.”

Team-mate Le Brocq, who impressively scored two points on debut at Albert Park, pipped Brabham to 14th spot in the final session.

“This track is not as technical as Albert Park,” noted the 17 year old, “but it offers its own challenges with all the bumps.

“I found that I was overdriving the car in Practice 2 and it cost me a lot of time, so to come back in the late afternoon and only be a second off of the fastest time showed what I’d learnt during the day.

“The CAMS Rising Stars is a great environment in which to tackle these tracks for the first time, as we can all work together on set ups and driving style.”

Aussie Racing Car graduate Garry Jacobson also improved throughout the day, and will be looking to add further points to his tally after a positive debut at Albert Park last month.

“This track is good,” he said at the end of the day, “as it has only six turns so I can really focus on getting a good balance in the car. We made progress with the set up every session, and I’m gaining experience with every lap I do.

“It feels good to be racing with the CAMS Rising Stars program and Minda Motorsport, we have good resources, and I’m building a strong relationship with the engineers. We’re moving forward every time we work go out onto the race track.”

The Australian Formula Ford Championship will be on track again tomorrow, with qualifying at 10:20am and Race 1 at 15:10pm.
